Update from the Department for Business Innovation & Skills

5th March 2014

The Department for Business Innovation & Skills recently released the below update on the future of Apprenticeships in England;

Dear colleague,

Apprenticeships are at the heart of the Government’s drive to give people of all ages the skills employers need to grow and compete. They already deliver strong returns for the economy, for employers and for apprentices. We want to go further by reforming Apprenticeships to put employers in the driving seat, making them more rigorous and more responsive.

Today we have published the first eleven new Apprenticeship standards developed by our Trailblazers. These clear and concise documents, written by employers in language they understand, will be the blueprint for world class Apprenticeships in these occupations. The new standards are available here.

The momentum of our reforms is growing. Following huge interest from employers who want to lead development of standards in their sector, we have announced today a second phase of Trailblazers in 29 more industries. You can find a full list, together with lessons learned and tools from the first phase in our updated Trailblazer Guidance.

We at the Federation are very excited to see the new standards and will keep you up-to-date with all future developments.
