This Spectator Safety Framework is aimed at those individuals looking to enter the industry as a steward or a marshal for large scale sporting events. There is an increasing demand for occupationally competent stewards due to the popularity of professional sport throughout England including, Football, Rugby, Tennis, Horse Racing, Motor Racing, Cricket, as well as major indoor sports like Ice Hockey and Basketball to name a few. The need for an increased number of qualified stewards is due to several initiatives in the sector which will impact on the design and take up of this framework, including the 2016 and 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and a number of planned world championships as well as the legacy of these events.
The expectation is that the achievement of this framework will require a minimum duration of 12 months at both Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship level.
Please note it is recommended that apprentices are contracted and employed for a minimum of 30 hours on publicly funded programmes.
